Eilert Adelsteen Normann - HISTORY
A magnanimous and perceptive soul
Change arrived with the northerner, Eilert Adelsteen Normann (1848–1918), from Bodin.
Eilert Adelsteen NormannEilert Adelsteen Normann studied in Düsseldorf, and even though he was not taught by Hans Gude, but by the more modern Eugène Dücker from Estonia, he did follow the more or less theatrical standpoint that was preferred in Düsseldorf. This is evident in his painting “From Lauksund, Raftsundet” (1887). To be sure, the tall mountains do indeed tower in the background, but focus is primarily on the reflection of the sky in the water and the boats on the fjord.
Adelsteen Normann was a magnanimous and perceptive soul who encouraged talented northerners to study abroad. One of them was his cousin, Ole Juul.
