The Building

This is where people meet

Locals and visitors. Fishermen and artists. The past and the present.

The building that houses Galleri Lofoten was once a working fishing factory at the heart of Henningsvær’s maritime life. Today, its timber beams, high ceilings and views across the harbour provide a home for Norway’s Golden Age paintings alongside contemporary art.

The building has changed, but its connection to the people, the sea and the village remains.

Private Wine Tasting
& Venue Hire

Bring your guests to the heart of Henningsvær. We offer private gallery tours paired with a wine tasting experience in our wine room for groups of 10 to 30 people. Our spaces are also available for private functions, corporate gatherings, and venue hire.

Exhibition Rooms

Set across three floors of the gallery’s historic building, each exhibition space offers a different perspective on the collection.

Ground floor

Home to our Golden Age collection, featuring the Painters of Lofoten that form the heart of the gallery.

First floor

Dedicated to the watercolours of Lars Lerin, alongside our programme of rotating guest exhibitions.

Second floor

Featuring works by Frans Widerberg, Nico Widerberg and Ørnulf Opdahl, together with an exhibition exploring the history of Lofoten’s fishing industry.

The Wine Room

The wine room at Galleri Lofoten is a place to slow down. Surrounded by art, with views across the harbour, it’s somewhere to reflect on your visit or simply enjoy a glass of wine in good company.

There’s no need to book. We welcome walk-ins, so you’re free to drop in whenever you like and stay for as long as you wish.

The Cinema Hall

Screenings, talks and shared experiences

The Cinema Hall is a dedicated space for film screenings, artist talks, lectures and community events. Throughout the year, it hosts a programme that explores art, landscape and life in the north.

With comfortable seating for up to 100 guests and excellent acoustics, the hall is also available for private hire. If you’re planning an event, we’d be happy to discuss how the space could work for you.

The Surroundings and
Sculpture Park

Step outside and you’ll find the harbour, fishing boats and mountains that define Henningsvær. The gallery doesn’t end at the door; the landscape is part of the experience.

The gallery’s outdoor spaces are also home to a collection of sculptures and installations. Works by Nico Widerberg stand at the entrance, while a large ceramic vase by Magne Furuholmen sits in the grounds. Vases by HM Queen Sonja and a further work by Kjell Nuppen complete the collection, extending the gallery beyond its walls.

During the summer months, these outdoor spaces are available for receptions, gatherings, photography and film shoots. They also provide a natural meeting point for guided tours and group visits.
