Anna Boberg

Anna Boberg - HISTORY

Anna Boberg, born in 1864 in Sweden, was a self-taught artist known for her captivating depictions of the arctic landscapes of Lofoten, Norway. Despite minimal formal training, her talent blossomed, evident in her vivid depictions of the Northern Lights and the Midnight Sun.

During her first visit to northern Norway in 1901, Anna’s fascination with the Lofoten Islands led her to stay there while her husband returned home alone, sending her painting equipment to feed her passion. Over the next 33 years, she made over three dozen return trips to Lofoten, capturing the otherworldly beauty in her paintings.

Anna’s last exhibition was in 1927, and she passed away in 1935 in Stockholm. Only recently recognized by the Swedish art world, her work has been on permanent display since 2018 at renowned institutions such as the Swedish National Museum and the Swedish Museum of Art and Design.
